Ghost Ship Washes Ashore in St. Augustine: A Maritime Mystery Unfolds
Oddly enough, nobody knows how a Ghost Ship found its way to the shore of St. Augustine, Florida leaving everyone awestruck. This old and seemingly abandoned ship was found drifting near the coast early this morning and people are asking themselves where it came from and how long it has been lost at sea.
Discovery on the Shoreline
Residents of St. Augustine awoke to a sight that felt straight out of a nautical thriller: a derelict boat which was partly sunken and completely still, resting on the sand bar. The vehicle, which is a converted fishing trawler dubbed the Sea Whisperer, is about 60ft long, and shows signs of rust and wear from seas and storms endured at sea. There’s rust on its iron-like hull and barnacles adhering to its metal sides, which tells you it has been floating for quite some time.
It was followed by informing the local authorities, who were informed shortly after the discovery of the animals, and a team of marine rescue workers. Some just came to take pictures and talk about the journey of the ship. ‘Wow it is amazing,’ noted Tom Reynolds who was a local fisherman. “This is the first time I come to this beach although it is near my home and I have been shocked seeing such a scene.” That seems like something that has been made up for a movie.
People have also visited the area for tourism and sight seeing possibly due to the peculiarity of the attraction. “We were only on a beach outing when we came across this ship,” according to Lisa Chang. One woman said that the experience was both creepy and lovely simultaneously. I am looking forward to hearing more of its story.”
Next Steps for Authorities
As the investigation goes on, authorities are employing cooperation with environmental organizations to minimize the dangers of the ship to the sea environment. Preparations are being done for assessing the safety of the vessel for further use, which may result to salvage if the vessel is determined hazardous.
For the moment, the St. Augustine Historical Society has offered its interest in collecting relics from the ship in the event of a search for the ship’s remnants is conducted. “We’d like to discover more about this site and its past and how people lived, worked and operated vessels in this part of the world.”
